Dear Sane Trump Voters

Congratulations on your win.  Perhaps you voted for Trump over his anti-corruption policies.  Perhaps you voted for him for his stance on immigration, or Obamacare.  Perhaps you voted for him simply because he was the only candidate who wasn’t beholden to the large companies who currently get more say in the American government than the American people do.

Unfortunately, there’s a dark side to your candidate, and it’s that he has made some pretty ugly comments about women, blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, homosexuals, mentally handicapped people, and POWs.  Those remarks were personal rather than policy, and you voted for him because of his policies, though.  Good for you.  You are not alone.

But there are a group of small-minded people who have taken those personal comments he made to heart.  They voted for him because he said the ugly things they already believed wholeheartedly.  Right now, they are elated, because in their minds Trump’s victory is a validation of all their hatred towards people who aren’t white and male.   As far as those bigots are concerned, half of the country agrees with them. And an awful lot of those not-white or not-male people are scared right now, because those bigots feel empowered to act on their hatred.  Already we are seeing reports of harassment and downright violence.

So we need you.  You, who have voted for Trump on the issues and policies.  We need you to stand up and be vocal about why you voted for Trump, and we especially need you to be vocal about not backing Trump’s racist, sexist, homophobic, or Islamophobic remarks.  We need you to stand up and say that violence towards others is NOT okay, and it will not be tolerated.  We need you to tell those bigots in no uncertain terms that you may share their candidate, but you do NOT share their hatred.  We need you to tell them that half the country most certainly does NOT share their bigotry.

I’ve made up a couple of images, suitable for a quick and easy “share” on the social networks of your choice, to make it easy for you to stand up and tell the world that you don’t back hatred.   Please, share them.  Or make your own. (I found  Imgflip to be quick and easy.)

Stand up for an American united behind policies instead of bigotry.

Of course. We are not those kind of people and too many Clinton supporters are accusing us of just that
